He began his musical studies at the MedellÃn Higher School of Music with teachers Gabriel Uribe and Delio Hoyos, and later continued in New York, where he studied with Andrew Loyla at the Mannes School of Music (Diploma Program in Flute) and with Bernard Goldberg at Brooklyn College (Bachelor of Music). His training was enriched by masterclasses with Robert Dick and the Alaria Chamber Orchestra, experiences that shaped his vision of music as a language open to innovation.
Upon returning to Colombia, he pursued a Master's degree in Composition at EAFIT University, developing a research-creation project that strengthened his approach to artistic experimentation. As a performer, he has been a member of the Antioquia Symphony Orchestra, a guest musician with the MedellÃn Philharmonic Orchestra and the MedellÃn Baroque Ensemble, and has also participated in various chamber music groups in the city.
Since 2000, he has been a professor in the Music Department at EAFIT University, where he has taught courses in computer-based music software such as Finale and in digital audio production. His work in this field has led him to collaborate on the editing, copying, and publication of musical scores, as well as on recording and record production, contributing to both academic and professional projects.
In 2014, she founded the MUSUX research group, a pioneering space for research and creation in Colombia. Under her leadership, MUSUX has established itself as an artistic and technological laboratory integrating music, dance, visual arts, literature, and digital media. This group has produced high-impact works and performances, presented in MedellÃn and on international stages, fostering dialogue between disciplines and exploring new aesthetic possibilities through technology. MUSUX has enabled the training of young research-creators in a transdisciplinary collaborative environment, positioning EAFIT University as a leader in artistic research in Latin America.
Rodrigo Henao's career combines academic rigor, artistic sensibility, and a commitment to innovation. His contribution lies not only in his distinguished career as a performer and composer, but also in his ability to pave the way for art to engage in dialogue with science and technology, establishing himself as a leading figure in the field of research and creation in Colombia.
