Prisma Sonoro is a research project that won the 2018 Medellín Mayor's Office grant for art and culture. This project has three phases: The first phase involves the construction of a new Colombian electronic instrument. This instrument draws an analogy between the fragmentation of a beam of white light into various colors through a prism and the way sound, due to its acoustic properties, allows for a similar process. In this case, the project proposes to fragment white noise into different sonic materials using filters and contemporary composition techniques spatialized within an 8.1 audio system.

The second phase is musical production, for which a group of Colombian composers will be convened to create musical works that must integrate the sound possibilities of the sound prism with three traditional Colombian acoustic instruments: the tiple, the chonta marimba and the ocarinas.

The third phase will be a concert where the spatialized sound experience of the 8.1 system will converge with light projections that mimic the effect of a prism. The audience will be positioned radially in the center of the speakers, creating a sense of sonic immersion.
